Neighbors reported that a man with a history of domestic abuse fatally shot his wife after allegedly attempting to contact the police multiple times without success.
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) received a report of “shots fired” at 6:51 a.m., but confirmation of the incident did not come until 8:04 a.m. Officers who had been assigned to monitor the apartment the previous evening were unable to establish contact with the couple. The delayed response has raised concerns in the community regarding the accessibility of emergency services.
Family’s Anguish
Felicia Cooper’s family in New Orleans received distressing news early Saturday morning, alerting them to the possibility that their cousin was in danger. Upon arrival at the residence on Monroe Street, police discovered both Felicia and her spouse deceased from gunshot wounds. Raymond Cooper, identified as the deceased husband, was recognized by neighbors who had reported suspicious activities.
The family asserts that multiple requests for assistance were made from inside the residence, but no police response was forthcoming. They believe that earlier intervention by law enforcement might have prevented the tragic outcome.
